Press Release|Powill Showcases “Compatibility-First” Additive Solutions for Waterborne Wood Coatings at Industry Summit
Release time: 2026-03-20
March 2026 – Driven by the need for eco-friendly practices, the furniture industry in Nankang faces challenges in applying waterborne wood coatings. In mid-March, Polywill presented its additive solutions at the 2026 Waterborne Furniture Coating and Application Technology Matchmaking Conference.

Mr.Xiao, Polywill’s Application Technology Manager, delivered a presentation titled “Shooting the Pain Points of the Waterborne Wood Coating Industry: Polywill’s Additive Solutions”. He shared strategies to address common issues like slow drying, sagging, grain raising, and tannin bleeding.

Formulation “conflicts” are common in coatings: adding strong defoamers removes foam but easily causes cratering; adding strong wetting agents to fix cratering introduces new foam during mixing.
Polywill believes the key to breaking this cycle is “source control and compatibility first”. Additive usage should not disrupt the overall balance of the system; additives can only function properly when compatibility is ensured.

- Foam and Cratering: Wetting agent Coadd™W-6169 effectively lowers emulsion surface tension without stabilizing foam. When used with compatible defoamers:Coadd™ DF-8106,Coadd™ DF-6588 or Coadd™ DF-6655, it provides excellent spreading and anti-cratering performance.
- Anti-Sagging: Anti-Sagging: In waterborne 2K PU systems, our HEUR thickener Coadd™ U-6299 efficiently increases low-shear viscosity, improving anti-sagging and anti-settling properties.
- Color Stability (Floating and Flooding): To solve color instability during tinting, waterborne dispersant Coadd™ D-6739, combined with polymeric dispersants Coadd™ DO-6213 or Coadd™ D-6071, improves color development and reduces color differences in rub-out and post-heat-storage spray tests.
- Specialty Additives and Surface Control: To address the limited pot life of waterborne 2K systems, Pot-life Extender Coadd™ GH-2807 effectively extends the application window while maintaining gloss and adhesion. For the common issue of tannin bleeding in solid wood, Coadd™ TB-6136 offers a low-odor and highly compatible blocking solution.
